Getting ready for winter should involve more than just putting an ice scraper in your car and breaking out your heavy coat. Last winter’s cold and snow combined with the summer’s heat may have taken their toll on places where outside air can enter your home. So break out your caulk gun and weather stripping and follow this article’s advice for sealing leaks in your home.
- The seals around windows and doors are particularly susceptible to the elements, so you my need to caulk or add weather stripping there.
- The points on your walls where pipes enter your home also may need to be recaulked or have their stripping replaced.
- Many overlook light switches and outlets as sources of drafts in the home. There are now precut gaskets available at hardware stores that you can place behind your switch and outlet plates to plug these drafts.
Going back to the windows for a moment, it they’re really drafty, you may need to have them replaced. We can get this work done as well as all your other winterization tasks for you before the cold sets in.
