What is the u-value of your windows? A: .23 for double pane
energy star rated windows and .18 for triple pane energy star rated windows.
Q: Do you offer discounts if both my neighbor and I want
to have our roofs done together. A: Good question. Yes we
do. It’s best to have both of you there during the estimate so we can determine
exactly what you both want in order to come up with a firm estimate.
Q: How important is the thickness of the vinyl siding I use?
A: We have experienced fewer service issues with panels exceeding
.046” gauge in thickness. The best VALUE is in the panel that combines both
.046” and better gauge thickness while including high concentrations of
impact modifiers and color stabilizers. Q: What is the
warranty on your windows? A: Full lifetime warranty.
Q: How long does the typical siding job take? A:
We have installed siding on homes in as little as 2 days and larger homes and
commercial projects that have taken weeks, it truly depends on the size of the
project. Q: Is it okay to install vinyl siding in the
winter? A: In the hands of an experienced professional it
is acceptable to install vinyl siding during the winter months. Q:
Why do I see lots of seams on some resided homes and very few on others? A:
The number of seams in your final project is a function of the length of the siding
panel used, how each row of siding is started, and how much waste the contractor
allows. Using scraps and small pieces, although unacceptable to us, can cut costs
substantially. Q: I’ve got a concrete porch that
I’d like to replace with a composite deck. Will your company take care of
the demo as well, or will I need to hire someone else? A:
Our estimate will include demolition, permit fees and installation of the new
deck. Q: My roof currently has two layers of shingles.
I’ve been told that it’s illegal to put on another layer. Is that
true? A: Maryland fire code restricts homeowners to two layers
of shingles. It will be necessary to remove both layers. Q:
How long does it take to get windows put in? A: Typically
4 weeks from the time of order. Q: I have heard that
composite decking can get very hot in the sun. Is this true, and should I consider
wood as an option around a very sunny pool area? A: It is
true that composite decking can get hot in direct sun. However, several of the
composites we offer are designed with hollow areas running through them which
allows air to circulate and cool the boards. The biggest concern for a “pool
area” would be a smooth vs. grain finish on the boards. A smooth finish
can be slippery so it is I important to choose a composite with a deep grain.
We offer several products that fit that description. Q:
Do your windows come in any other color besides white? A:
Our windows come in 25 different exterior colors Q:
My roof is leaking badly. I’m concerned about the condition of the wood
under the shingles. How will that be addressed? A: Wood replacement
can be an important part of a roofing job. If your sheathing is damaged our installers
will be careful to replace any areas that might be rotted or weak. Q:
My community has strict standards on what can be built. I also understand that
a county permit is required. Will your company provide us with drawings and things
so that we can get the project approved? A: Our representative
will help you design a project that fits within the county regulations as well
as your community standards. We will provide you with a drawing, work order and
material sample (if required) for your homeowners association. Q:
I’m interested in having my roof installed soon. I realize that it is starting
to get cold outside. Do you install roofs in the cold weather? A:
We install roof year round abiding by Certainteed’s installation
procedures which allows for installation on days when the temperature exceeds
39 degrees. Q: What different types of deck railing
do you offer? A: In addition to a variety of wood products,
we offer vinyl, composite, aluminum and privacy fencing. Q:
We’re interested in starting our roofing project pretty soon. We are selling
the house and are on a pretty tight schedule. How long will the project take?
A: We can complete most roof installations in one day. In most
cases we are able to begin work within one week of the order. Q:
I have an existing deck on my home. Its several years old, but I think it was
built pretty well. Is it possible to remove the boards and replace them without
rebuilding the whole thing? A: In most cases, if your deck
was built to code, it is possible. Q: Do I need to replace
my interior molding when I replace my windows? A: No, your
interior molding stays and remains untouched. Q: Can
you recommend a company for tree removal. A: Yes in most
cases I can recommend a company who I trust to help you with projects that we
don’t do. Please call me so that we can discuss in more detail exactly what
you would like to have done. Q: I am installing drywall
in my house but I'm not very good at mudding and sanding can you give me any tips.
A: That is truly an art form. It’s always best to leave
that part for a professional. However if you insist on tackling it yourself, try
using a wet sponge as opposed to sandpaper. You will never see a professional
do it that way but it is a lot easier for a novice. Remember, it’s never
too late to call a professional if you get in over your head. Q:
I have a slate roof. I’m not sure whether I want to repair it or replace
it with asphalt shingles. What options would your company have for my situation?
A: We do not repair slate roofs. However, we do have several
slate style asphalt shingles which are available with Lifetime warranties.
